St Ives Surf School & Beaches

St Ives has some stunning beaches for you to visit during your stay. Great for simply relaxing on and soaking up the sun but also for water-based activities.

If you’re interested in surfing, SUP or kayaking, it’s good to know which beach is best for you!

Starting with Porthmeor Beach, this is where to go if you’re looking for waves to surf. Bigger and more challenging in the winter months, calmer and busier in the summer. Boards of different shapes and sizes and wetsuits are available to hire on the day from St Ives Surf School - easily recognisable on the beach. You can also book lessons in advance with the Surf School.

If you fancy a flatter, calmer sea, head to Porthminster Beach. Great for paddle boarding or kayaking - equipment you can hire from St Ives Surf School located on the beach.

Finally, swimming. While you could do this on both of the above, our favourite is Porthgwidden Beach which is smaller than the other two making it more suitable for swimming. This is another beach popular with families as its slightly protected from the swell that makes the nearby Porthmeor a good spot for surfing.
