Tate St Ives & The Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden

Tate St Ives

One of just four Tate galleries in the country.

While smaller than the others, Tate St Ives maintains the significance of its counterparts Modern, Britain and Liverpool.

As well as a fine selection of some world famous artists such as Picasso, Matisse and Rothko, the real attraction of this Tate is the permanent collection of works by the local artists that play a huge role in the town’s modern art history. Names such as Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham - among a host of others. As with the other Tate galleries, there is useful information throughout the gallery in each room to direct your browsing.

Tate St Ives also hosts excellent periodic exhibitions featuring international artists. Many of these exhibitions are interactive and immersive which make for an exciting visit.

A lovely cafe with great views over the town is on the top floor and there’s a good shop for postcards and books.

Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden

Based at the site of the old home of the internationally recognised sculptor, this stunning garden showcases some of Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures in stylish fashion. Standing tall in the open, hiding among flowers or stretching out across a peaceful patch, these works are best enjoyed on a sunny afternoon.

Inside the house, you’ll find a smaller display of photographs and sculptures as well as biographical information. Guided tours run throughout the day and are very worth tagging onto as the volunteers leading them have an abundance of information ready to share and can answer any questions you may have!

Joint day tickets to attend both of these galleries can be purchased.
